2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship: Leaderboard Update, Key Stats, and Player Analysis After Day 1

The first round of the 2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship has concluded, and the leaderboard is heating up. Jordan Spieth, along with four other golfers, has taken the lead after an impressive 18 holes. Spieth's strong back nine saw him climb to the top spot on the leaderboard, leaving many wondering how he managed to achieve such a remarkable feat. With a five-under-par score, Spieth has set the bar high for the rest of the competition.

Spieth's journey to the top of the leaderboard was not without its challenges. He entered the tournament in 22nd place in the FedEx Cup standings, but his solid performance on Thursday has given him a clear edge over his competitors. His bogey-free round, marked by four consecutive birdies on the 11th, 12th, 13th, and 15th holes, has caught the attention of fans and analysts alike. Spieth's momentum is crucial in his quest to win the FedEx Cup, and this performance is a significant step in the right direction.

Other notable golfers, such as Scottie Scheffler, have also impressed with their scores. Scheffler, the current FedEx Cup points leader, recorded a respectable 68, which included three birdies and a single bogey. His steady performance will undoubtedly keep him in contention as the tournament progresses. However, Scheffler's primary objective is to prepare for the Tour Championship, and a solid performance in Memphis will be essential in achieving that goal.

Rory McIlroy, on the other hand, has struggled to maintain his composure on the course. His disastrous finish, marked by bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes and a double bogey on the 18th hole, has left him languishing in second-to-last place among the 69 golfers competing in Memphis. McIlroy's struggles are a far cry from his usual form, and it remains to be seen whether he can mount a comeback in the subsequent rounds.
