Alexander Zverev Seeks First Grand Slam Title at French Open 2026

PARIS – Alexander Zverev is set to compete in his fourth Grand Slam final, with the 29-year-old German tennis player facing off against Italian opponent Flavio Cobolli at the French Open 2026 on June 7th.

Zverev has been touted as a potential successor to the 'Big Three' of men's tennis – Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer – since almost a decade ago. However, despite numerous opportunities, he has yet to capture a Grand Slam title.

Recent setbacks, including injuries to top contenders Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, have opened up the field, making Zverev's chances seem more promising. Nevertheless, he remains cautious, choosing not to rely on his status as the favorite.

"The only thing I can control is playing my best tennis," Zverev said. "I'll try to show my level of play and do the right things. That's what's most important to me.">

Zverev has accumulated an impressive collection of titles, including seven Masters 1000, two ATP Finals, and a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Nevertheless, a Grand Slam title has continued to elude him.

In three of his previous Grand Slam final appearances, Zverev was edged out by Dominic Thiem at the US Open 2020, Alcaraz at the French Open 2022, and Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open 2023.

Flavio Cobolli, his opponent in the 2026 French Open final, has shown impressive form, securing his first top-10 finish in the world rankings. Despite being considered the underdog, Cobolli has vowed to make the most of this "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity.

The pair have clashed three times previously, with Zverev dominating their head-to-head, winning 3-1. Their past meetings include victories for Zverev at the French Open last year and at the Halle.
