Atlanta United Signs Young Sensation Ignacio Suarez-Couri to Short-Term Agreement

Atlanta United has taken another bold step in its quest to develop young talent, signing 17-year-old midfielder Ignacio Suarez-Couri to a short-term agreement ahead of its match against Nashville SC on Friday. This decision comes as no surprise, given Suarez-Couri's impressive performance in the MLS NEXT Pro, where he has consistently impressed fans with his exceptional skills and game-changing abilities. With his signing, Atlanta United aims to give Suarez-Couri the opportunity to gain valuable experience and exposure in the league, which will undoubtedly benefit his development as a player.

As per the 2026 MLS Roster Rules and Regulations, Atlanta United is permitted to sign a player, aged 25 or younger, from its affiliate (MLS NEXT Pro) to a maximum of four short-term agreements each season. These agreements are designed to allow teams to nurture young talent and give them a chance to shine in the league. Suarez-Couri's signing is a prime example of this strategy, as the young midfielder has shown immense promise and potential in his short time at Atlanta United. His signing also highlights the importance of developing young players, as he is the youngest ATL UTD 2 player to score a goal on August 27, 2025, in a 4-1 win over Inter Miami CF II. To date, Suarez-Couri has scored one goal and provided four assists in 13 appearances, making him the youngest ATL UTD 2 player to reach five goal contributions in a season in the MLS NEXT Pro era.

Suarez-Couri's journey with Atlanta United began in April 2025, when he signed with the club after developing in the Atlanta United Academy since 2020. His incredible progress and rapid development have caught the attention of the US U-17 National Team, who recently gave him his international debut on June 7. Suarez-Couri's versatility, vision, and exceptional dribbling skills have made him a fan favorite, and his signing is a testament to Atlanta United's commitment to developing young talent.

When asked about Suarez-Couri's signing, Atlanta United fans are thrilled, stating, 'This is the right move for the club, as Suarez-Couri has the potential to become a top player in the league.' Others believe that his signing will provide a much-needed injection of youth and energy into the team, saying, 'Suarez-Couri's speed, agility, and creativity will undoubtedly bring a new dimension to the team's style of play.' As for Suarez-Couri's thoughts on his signing, he expressed his gratitude, saying, 'I am honored to be a part of the Atlanta United family and look forward to contributing to the team's success.'
