RiderTua.com – After more than two decades, MotoGP is set to return to Brazil at the Ayrton Senna Goiania Circuit in 2026. Under the watchful eye of FIM and Dorna Sports, the event organizers are racing against time to complete the ‘modernization’ project quickly, in time for the March schedule. By the way, the Brasil GP will be the second round of the MotoGP 2026 season.
FIM Circuit Sports Director, Paul Duprac, concedes that it’s a tight squeeze but is optimistic about the project's deadline. "The construction schedule is extremely tight, and the team on site is working tirelessly to meet the deadline. To ensure everything runs smoothly, we have a FIM representative following the project's progress closely. We receive weekly video and photo reports that give us an update on the project's progress," he explains.
Duprac adds that the latest video updates show that the first layer of asphalt has been completed, the access roads are ready, and most of the barriers have been installed. Safety elements, such as airfence and kerbs, have also been ordered from the manufacturer. Yes, the construction schedule is tight, but there's no reason to worry at the moment," he concludes.
The renovation project, which has a budget of around €8.5 million (approximately IDR 167.5 billion) provided by the Goias state government, is comprehensive and covers everything from the track to the paddock. The most notable renovation is the widening of the pit lane entrance, which is already underway. Additionally, barriers will be installed around the Medical Center area to ensure the privacy of riders undergoing operations, a detail that reflects the adaptation to modern health protocols.
Before the current streak, the Brasil GP was held in Goiania for only three years – 1987, 1988, and 1989. Legends Wayne Gardner, Eddie Lawson, and Kevin Schwantz were the winners in each respective season. After that, the racing was conducted at Interlagos and later more frequently at the Jacarepagua circuit in Rio de Janeiro until 2004. It was there that Valentino Rossi became the most successful rider.
The target is clear: transforming the classic circuit into a 21st-century venue that can deliver thrilling racing entertainment for motor sports enthusiasts. And get ready for the MotoGP 2026 season...
