Jakarta, BincangBincangMobil - Ayrton Senna's name is etched in the hearts of F1 fans worldwide due to his unyielding commitment and eccentric personality. Beyond his intense rivalry with Alain Prost, Senna's legacy is marked by several iconic moments in the single-seater world.
One of the most memorable moments is his maiden win at home turf - GP Brazil 1991 held at Interlagos - a thrilling spectacle.
The very mobil that brought Senna his first home win, the MP4/6/1 chassis, is set to go under the hammer at RM Sotheby's auction on December 8-11, 2025.
The MP4/6/1 made its debut in a few early 1991 races, including the Brazilian GP. Senna secured pole position and a solid start, outpacing top runners like Nigel Mansell, Riccardo Patrese, Jean Alesi, and Alain Prost.
The race unfolded smoothly for Senna until his Neil Oatley-designed car experienced gearbox issues on lap 60. The Brazilian great had to lose fourth gear during his lead.
In the remaining 10 laps, Senna encountered another issue - losing fifth and third gears, forcing him to hold onto sixth gear for the duration. This proved to be a disaster as his car 'stalled' on multiple occasions, but managed to recover each time.
Senna's problems became Patrese's gain, the lone Williams driver at the track after Nigel Mansell dropped out with gearbox issues.
Paturese pushed to the limit, but couldn't overtake Senna's McLaren-Honda due to his own gearbox woes and the late-race rain that blessed Senna's fortunes.
After securing the win, Senna let out hysterical celebratory radio declarations, signifying his relief and joy. His hard-fought victory meant so much to the Brazilian people, causing him to experience muscle cramps and fever, requiring assistance to exit his car.
'When the checkered flag came, I had nothing left. God gave me this race,' Senna exclaimed that day.
The McLaren MP4/6 was also the last V12 engined and manual transmission championship-winning F1 car, solidifying its status as a highly sought-after collector's item.
