This condition should be anticipated by all levels of society to ensure water availability, health conditions, and the needs of affected multi-sectors can be controlled.

The Head of BMKG, Teuku Faisal Fathani, explained that the drought peak in July covers 83 Zones of the Season (ZOM) or 12.26% of Indonesia's land area. While in August, 369 ZOM (48.84% of land area) will experience drought, and in September, 169 ZOM (25.41% of land area) will be affected.

"The regions predicted to experience drought in July 2026 include parts of Sumatra, parts of West Kalimantan, parts of West Java, East Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi Barat, Sulawesi Tengah, parts of Maluku, Papua Barat, Papua Barat Daya, and East Papua," said Faisal at the BMKG MHEWS Building, Jakarta (10/6).

In August 2026, the drought peak will occur in Central Sumatra, most of Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, parts of East Nusa Tenggara, most of Borneo, parts of Sulawesi, Maluku, and North Maluku, and most of Papua.

Deputy for Climatology, Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan, added that based on BMKG monitoring up to the end of May 2026, 200 ZOM (11.83% of the land area) have already entered the drought season. The regions affected by drought include parts of Sumatra, parts of Java, most of East Nusa Tenggara, Central Kalimantan, parts of Sulawesi, Maluku, and East Papua.

Moreover, 198 ZOM (31.60% of the land area) are predicted to experience drought in June, including most of Sumatra, West Kalimantan, most of Banten, South Jakarta, Central Java, and a part of East Java, South Kalimantan, and most of East Kalimantan, most of North Kalimantan, and East Papua.
