Brooks Koepka is one of six players tied for the lead after the first round of the RBC Canadian Open on Thursday in Caledon, Ontario.
The five-time major winner shot a 6-under-par 64 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley’s North course. Koepka is tied with Sahith Theegala, Eric Cole, Sam Burn, Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo, and Canada native Matthew Anderson.
A group of 12 players are one stroke behind the leaders, including Canadian Adam Svensson, Irishman Shane Lowry, and Tony Finau. Finau is aiming to turn his season around and qualify for next month’s Open Championship.
Koepka has been back on the PGA Tour since January after more than three years away with LIV Golf. He has placed in the top 20 in six events this year but is still seeking his first win in a standard PGA Tour event since the 2021 WM Phoenix Open.
Other Canadians in the mix include Taylor Pendrith and Nick Taylor. The top three finishers in Canada not otherwise exempt will qualify for the Open at Royal Birkdale.
Tony Finau is well aware that a high finish this week could earn him a spot in the Open. Finau has yet to play in a major this year and failed to qualify for the U.S. Open.
