Charles Leclerc: New F1 Rules Will Be a Major Challenge

Charles Leclerc, a Ferrari driver, has stated that the new rules introduced in Formula 1 will be a significant challenge for him and other drivers. Despite this, the Monacan driver is looking forward to the new season and believes that the competition will be very tight.

"It's going to be a big challenge, but it's something that excites me, and with all the work behind the scenes, I am really looking forward to getting back in the car and seeing how it feels, so that's very appealing," Leclerc said, according to Formula 1, on Monday.

One of the significant changes in the 2026 Formula 1 season is the new rules which will make the cars more compact and lighter, with a minimum weight of 770 kg, a reduction of 30 kg from the previous season.

There will also be the introduction of movable front and rear wings, which will replace the drag reduction system (DRS). Furthermore, the downforce will be significantly reduced, with a reduction of 15-30 percent. This will result in a lower corner speed but a higher straight-line speed.

Leclerc expressed his eagerness to take the Ferrari SF-26 for a spin during a test session. Although he has not yet driven the car as it is still in the development phase, he is confident that the team will be ready to compete in the new season.

"I'm really excited because there's been so much talk and so much work behind the scenes to get the car in a condition where it's ready and can drive on a track normally," Leclerc said.
