Charles Leclerc Receives 20-Second Penalty at GP Miami, Drops to P8

MIAMI - Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was handed an additional 20-second penalty after being deemed to have engaged in hazardous maneuvers during the Formula 1 Grand Prix Miami.

As a result of the penalty, Leclerc fell from sixth place to eighth in the final standings at the Miami International Autodrome.

According to an official statement, Leclerc's car was deemed to be in a hazardous position while navigating a turn, despite his claims to the contrary.

During the incident, Leclerc left the track and cut across another driver's lane to address issues with his vehicle. This action was deemed to be in breach of the rules, as it posed a potential risk to other drivers and provided an unfair advantage.

"Mechanical issues cannot be used as a justification for this action," the statement from Formula 1 read.

Additional incidents during the race included Leclerc losing control of his car on the final lap, hitting a barrier, and making contact with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team driver George Russell, although the latter incident was deemed minor.

The penalty dealt a significant blow to Ferrari's hopes of securing maximum points, while also highlighting the strict enforcement of safety regulations and adherence to rules in Formula 1.
