Demakes are always a hit among gamers, and they usually involve newer titles that push the boundaries, recreated for two or three older console generations. However, this time, Retro Dodo reports something entirely different: a classic Dreamcast title receiving the demake treatment, with a significantly rewound clock.
We're talking about the hit game Crazy Taxi, reimagined as a Game Boy version called Taxi Boy, with unmistakable inspiration and design. And we're talking about the original Game Boy, which could only display four gray/green colors. Spanish developer Pcnono Games is behind this project, where we'll once again drive around the city (although not to the tunes of Bad Religion and The Offspring, as Narcisound handles the music). There are three drivers and eleven cars to choose from.
Although the overall premise is the same, the gameplay has clearly been significantly altered, and the developer has also added the requirement to stop and refuel occasionally to make the arcade taxi game more interactive.
Taxi Boy is available for purchase through Itch.io for Android, Linux, Mac, and PC, and physical Game Boy cartridges are also on the way.
The premise is still the same, but it's clearly much more primitive, although you can actually order it on a Game Boy cartridge...
