Cristiano Ronaldo Set to Lead Portugal Against DR Congo in the 2026 World Cup

Ahead of the France national team's entry into the 2026 World Cup, Portugal is set to kick off their tournament with a match against the Democratic Republic of Congo. This Wednesday (19:00), the Lusitanian team will face off against their opponents. To lead his team to victory, coach Roberto Martinez has chosen to rely on Cristiano Ronaldo as the starting attacker.

Fiercely supported by the public, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been waiting to regain his scoring form since October last year with the Seleção at his side. In a 4-4-2 system, Ronaldo will be paired with Pedro Neto.

Midfield will be led by a duo consisting of Vitinha and Joao Neves, with Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva, the latter just transferred to Real Madrid. Defensively, the quartet of Tomas Araujo, Renato Veiga, Joao Cancelo, and Nuno Mendes will be responsible for protecting the goal.

Portugal is one of the most favored teams in the competition, despite facing stiff competition from the likes of France and Spain.

On the other hand, DR Congo has opted for a 5-3-2 system, which will feature Bakambu and Wissa as the attacking pair. Chancel Mbemba will hold his ground in the defensive midfield, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka anchoring the right flank.

Portugal's starting lineup includes Diogo Costa - Cancelo, Araujo, Veiga, Mendes - Fernandes, Vitinha, Neves, Bernardo Silva - Neto, Cristiano Ronaldo.

RD Congo: Mpasi - Wan-Bissaka, Kapuadi, Tuanzebe, Mbemba, Masuaku - Mukau, Moutoussamy, Kayembe - Bakambu, Wissa

Enjoy the match!
