In a remarkable feat, Dodge has transformed two standard Scat Pack models into drift-focused machines within a span of just two months. This incredible transformation demonstrates the capabilities of the automaker's team, which included Mike Musto, director of programming at Hemmings, and Suppy Wejpanich of Suppy's Garage. By leveraging a high-output Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine, the team was able to generate an impressive 750 horsepower.
The end result is a pair of vehicles, one being the two-door BOOST Coupe, designed primarily for performance, and the other, the four-door Rapid People Mover (RPM), intended to carry passengers in drift demos. The only untouched aspect of the standard Charger remains the windshield, with the rest of the vehicle undergoing significant alterations. The six-cylinder engines, which normally output 550 horsepower, have been tweaked to produce at least 750 horsepower. This was achieved through a combination of aggressive tuning and custom parts, which replaced the stock intake and exhaust systems. Both the two-door coupe and the four-door taxi feature high-output single-turbo setups, along with new cooling components. Their standard all-wheel-drive and automatic-transmission configurations have been swapped for manual transmissions that power the rear wheels.
The suspension and chassis components of the standard Chargers have been replaced with heavy-duty, drift-specific parts, ensuring optimal performance in drifting situations. The steering geometry has also been altered to provide better control during skids. The production interiors have been stripped and replaced with racing seats, roll cages, and multipoint harnesses to provide a more secure and engaging experience. On the exterior, both cars have undergone significant transformations, boasting custom hoods, wider front and rear fenders, unique rear wings, and subtle aerodynamic enhancements. They have been adorned with liveries that combine the Charger's new Purple Haze color with traditional racing and drifting graphics.
The custom Chargers will make their debut at Roadkill Nights on August 8 in Pontiac, Michigan, alongside the Charger Super Bee, which features the same high-output Hurricane engine but with a revised output of 600 horsepower. The Charger Super Bee's revised output was achieved through tuning and adjustments, demonstrating the potential for refinement and optimization. In contrast, the custom Chargers have been transformed into dedicated drift-focused machines, showcasing the possibilities of modifying mass-produced vehicles for specific purposes.
The Charger's transformation from a standard Scat Pack model to a drift-focused machine serves as a testament to the capabilities of Dodge's team. Their ability to reimagine and transform a production vehicle within a short timeframe is an impressive display of creativity and expertise. Additionally, the creation of these custom Chargers has the potential to inspire enthusiasts to explore alternative uses for mass-produced vehicles, such as drifting and other forms of motorsports.
A notable aspect of Dodge's efforts is the emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity in the automotive world. By creating a pair of customizable vehicles that cater to the needs of drift enthusiasts, Dodge is offering a new pathway for enthusiasts to explore the world of motorsports. This approach also highlights the potential for mass production vehicles to be transformed and adapted for specific purposes, broadening the scope of what is possible in the automotive world. Furthermore, the collaboration between Dodge, Hemmings, and Suppy's Garage showcases the potential for partnerships between established brands and independent entities, leading to innovative and engaging projects.
