An e-bike rider was injured in a serious crash during the Tuesday morning rush hour in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
The incident occurred around 8:20 a.m. on a busy stretch of Amesbury Road, between a Mobil gas station and a Dunkin' shop.
Surveillance footage shows the e-bike and a black SUV colliding, causing the rider to fall to the ground.
The victim, a man in his 50s, suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was initially taken to a local hospital and then flown to a Boston hospital.
'He did have a helmet on,' Haverhill Fire Chief Christopher Cesati said.
Paul Patel, who operates the Mobil station nearby, said traffic in the area is often congested.
'Dunkin' traffic is always backed up,' Patel said. 'Drive-through lines are always hectic on that side.'
Reconstruction teams from both the Massachusetts State Police and the Haverhill Police Department remained on scene throughout the morning investigating the crash.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene. It is unclear whether any charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact the Haverhill Police Department at 978-373-1212.
