The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that the El Nino phenomenon will continue to affect the weather in West Java over the next week, from June 9-15, 2026.
The most significant impact will be a reduction in rainfall intensity in several regions, although the potential for local rain still exists.
According to Edi Wibowo, Head of BMKG Bandung, the latest global climate analysis shows that the El Nino indicators are still strong, with a NiƱo 3.4 index of +0.69 and a Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) of -18.9.
'The El Nino phenomenon is still likely to reduce rainfall in parts of Indonesia, including West Java. Meanwhile, the influence of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) on Indonesia is expected to be insignificant over the next week,' Edi explained.
El Nino is a phenomenon of warming sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean that affects global weather patterns. In Indonesia, including West Java, this phenomenon typically causes a decrease in rainfall.
The impact is already being felt, with a decrease in rainfall frequency in several regions.
However, BMKG emphasizes that this does not entirely eliminate the potential for rain.
Light to moderate rain can still occur locally, especially in the afternoon and evening.
In certain conditions, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning or strong winds can still occur, although for a relatively short duration.
BMKG warns of the potential for hydrometeorological disasters that need to be anticipated.
'We urge the public to remain vigilant and update their weather information from BMKG. Understand the potential disasters in your surroundings and take immediate risk reduction measures,' Edi said.
'The community is expected to recognize the potential disasters in their area and start understanding how to reduce the risk of these disasters, for example, by not littering and working together to maintain cleanliness and organize their surroundings,' Edi added.
The El Nino phenomenon is expected to continue influencing the weather in West Java, resulting in decreased rainfall from June 9-15, 2026
