The SpaceX IPO got off to a record-breaking start on Friday, but the excitement was tempered by analysts' hesitation to dive headlong into the hype amid lingering questions as to whether products like artificial intelligence and reusable rocket ships to explore the outer reaches of space have sustainable real-world value.
Since then, however, excitement and belief in Elon Musk's ability to follow through and achieve even his most extreme-sounding plans have helped to increase SpaceX's stock price.
On Tuesday alone, the shares popped by about 9%. In the immediate aftermath, Musk's company briefly overtook Microsoft in market capitalization. Market cap is the total value of a company's outstanding shares. Passing Microsoft made SpaceX the fourth-largest company in the U.S.
Although Microsoft quickly regained its spot, the only companies ahead of SpaceX and Microsoft are Apple, Alphabet, and Nvidia.
SpaceX's growth, its IPO, and market enthusiasm aside, the company has a ways to go before catching Apple with its market cap of around $4.3 trillion.
As SpaceX basked in the afterglow of the more than 60% jump in share price from the IPO, it announced its acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor for a mere $60 billion. Presumably, Elon will dig through the couch cushions for that money in addition to deciding if he wants to buy the entire NFL.
This all combines to boost the founder and mogul Elon Musk's net worth to, at the moment, $1.40 trillion.
Prediction markets are asking that very question with options to weigh in on what Musk's net worth will be on June 30.
Market volume is just past $150,000, but as greater attention is paid to Musk's net worth, this should rise significantly.
Before the SpaceX IPO, his net worth was generally believed to be about $800 billion, give or take. With that, the implied market probability for his net worth to be at least $950 billion and below on June 30 is in the 90% range. Implied market probability drops to the high-80s for his net worth to be at least $1 trillion.

The rules dictate that Elon Musk's net worth must be above the selected amount according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index update for June 30, 2026, for the market to resolve to Yes. The Bloomberg Billionaires Index will verify the outcome.

The numbers that are being thrown around for Elon Musk's net worth are unfathomable to the everyday person. Even wealthy people cannot comprehend the concept of a trillion dollars or more. But this is where Musk has landed in his rocket ship to trillionairehood.
No longer does Elon Musk strive to be Lex Luthor. Lex Luthor strives to be Elon Musk.
Still, at this moment, June 30 is two weeks away, and a lot can happen in one day, let alone two weeks.
As the dust settles on the IPO, people will increasingly look at SpaceX's value in a more objective way. Even Musk admitted that when he started SpaceX almost a quarter-century ago, he thought its chances of success were around 10%. It takes more than a forward thinker to achieve this level of success with a product that looked like something Gene Roddenberry came up with when writing about Captain James T. Kirk and Klingons. There was a very real chance that it would be a catastrophic failure, given the goals of creating reusable rockets and colonizing Mars.
But Musk's company has created a reusable rocket, dramatically reducing the cost of space flights. He's also at the forefront of other necessary aspects of this endeavor, including satellite communications and AI. Removing the chances of human error will be fundamental to getting humans to Mars, let alone colonizing the Red Planet. The importance of reliable communication is self-evident.
Despite that, the stock price is secondary to his achievements. Many investors who are in it for a profit do not know or care about how the company managed to become so valuable. They want to make money. Analysts are still hedging on how to truly assess the stock until it has been available for more than a few days. Another factor is the ease of investment using the type of technology and availability for everyday people that Musk helped create since he started his Quixotic business career to become the richest person on the planet and the first trillionaire. Any tiny blip could reduce the stock's value at a moment's notice.
But by how much? And how will it impact Musk's net worth?
There are several launches planned from now to the day when this prediction market closes, so a disaster would be, well, disastrous and likely drop Musk's net worth. Suffice it to say that it is unlikely since accidents have been few and far between, and, fortunately, there have been no crew-related fatalities.
Will there be an AI catastrophe in the next two weeks? A Starlink collapse?
The safest pick is for it to be above $1.20 trillion on June 30. There is profit to be had in saying it will be above $1.30 trillion. Those who think it goes beyond his current net worth and is above $1.40 trillion can profit as well. It won't be as much as Musk has profited since SpaceX went public, but no one has reached that level until now. This is a totally new dynamic, and betting against him is probably unwise.
