In July 2026, the Indonesian government will implement a new regulation requiring all fuel to be blended with at least 5% ethanol. This move aims to reduce the country's dependency on imported fossil fuels and promote sustainable energy sources. Three major companies will be supplying this blended fuel: PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, and PT Pertamina Pembangunan Energi. PT Pertamina, the state-owned oil and gas company, will be the main supplier of E5 fuel. In preparation for this change, Pertamina has been working with these two companies to meet the growing demand for the new fuel blend.
This shift to E5 fuel is expected to bring numerous benefits to the environment and the economy. The reduction in greenhouse gas emissions will contribute to a cleaner environment, while the increased demand for ethanol will create new opportunities for local farmers and the agricultural sector.
As the deadline approaches, Pertamina and other relevant parties will continue to work together to ensure a smooth transition to the new fuel standard. With the supply chain already in place, Indonesians can expect a seamless switch to the new E5 fuel in July 2026.
