Cricket fans have stripped Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Al Nassr, of the 'best' title in the Saudi Pro League after the team won the championship for the first time in seven years.
The Saudi Pro League ended on May 21, with Al Nassr emerging as the champion after a seven-year drought.
Three weeks after the league's conclusion, the Saudi Pro League announced on Thursday that Mexican player Julian Quintonis, a standout for Al Qadisiyah, had been crowned the league's best player of the season based on fan voting.
Barely hours before kick-off in Mexico's inaugural 2026 World Cup final round against South Africa, Quintonis received the honor. He led the league with 33 goals in the season, one more than English-born striker Ivan Toney of Al Ahli.
Ronaldo struggled to hold onto the award he won in the previous two seasons, while he failed to secure the title of Best Player of the season despite scoring 28 goals, which was the third-highest tally.
In addition, the Fans' Choice Award did not go to another Porto native, Joao Felix, of Al Nassr, who had been crowned best player by the Saudi Pro League, with 20 goals and 13 assists in 34 matches.
It is worth noting that Quintonis led the league in the Best Player in the Game award for the most times during the previous season in the Saudi Pro League, with 14 times.
