Foiled Plot to Attack White House UFC Event Highlights Growing Domestic Threats

On June 12, the FBI announced it had foiled a plot to attack a UFC event held at the White House earlier that day, using snipers and drones. The suspects, five men from different states, had planned to target the event, which was attended by approximately 4,300 people and watched by an additional 85,000 nearby spectators.

According to court documents, the group had discussed using explosive-laden drones to strike nearby buildings and firing on "high-value targets", identified as wealthy individuals and politicians attending the event. The suspects had also planned to storm the White House gate in a second wave of attacks.

The group's alleged plan was discovered after one of the suspects, Tycen C Proper, 19, from Ohio, made large firearms purchases and expressed ultra-religious and antigovernment sentiments online. His mother contacted authorities, leading to the investigation and subsequent arrest of the suspects.

In a statement, FBI Director Kash Patel praised the multi-state operation, saying "alleged planned attacks were stopped cold." The suspects have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, with each facing a maximum penalty of life in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

One of the suspects, Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez, 31, from Nebraska, was reportedly responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the planned attack. Investigators found maps of Washington highlighting planned sniper locations, drone launch points, and potential targets, including power grids.

As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, the foiled plot raises concerns about growing domestic threats. "The suspects allegedly wanted to "jumpstart" a revolution by shooting "high-value targets,'" prosecutors said, highlighting the perceived grievances about government corruption, the handling of the Epstein files, and other government actions.

The plot was linked to a TikTok group called "Vanguard of the Old," which is believed to have been used to recruit members. The group's motivations and any potential connections to larger organizations remain unclear.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 29. As the investigation unfolds, questions arise about the suspects' backgrounds, their perceived grievances, and the role of social media in inciting violence.

The event, which coincided with former President Donald Trump's 80th birthday, was part of a celebration of the nation's 250th anniversary. The back-to-back fights were held on the South Lawn, with an estimated 4,300 invite-only guests and another 85,000 spectators watching nearby.

The foiled plot serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present threat of domestic extremism. As the country continues to navigate complex social and political issues, authorities must remain vigilant in identifying and preventing such plots before they materialize.
