The Argentine driver, Franco Colapinto, had a disappointing F1 2025 season racing for Alpine without securing a single point. This result stands in contrast to his performance in the previous season where he earned five points as a substitute for Logan Sargeant at Williams, finishing eighth at the Azerbaijan GP and tenth at the US GP.
Alpine's decision to replace Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto permanently from the Imola GP 2025 to the end of the season, it seems, didn't meet the team's expectations and didn't yield the desired results. Colapinto's best finish in the season was an 11th-place finish at the Dutch GP.
Despite ending the 2025 season without points, Alpine surprisingly decided to retain Franco Colapinto for the 2026 season.
However, Alpine might consider replacing Colapinto with reserve driver Paul Aron mid-season 2026 if his performance remains lackluster.
With Alpine set to drop Renault's underpowered power unit and switch to a Mercedes-Benz power unit in 2026, which is generally considered better, the team might breathe a sigh of relief in the next season.
