Franco Colapinto's Racing Future in Doubt After Devastating 50G Crash in Qualifying

Williams' Franco Colapinto's participation in the Las Vegas Grand Prix is uncertain following a severe crash in qualifying.

The 21-year-old Argentine driver suffered significant damage to his FW46 car after a massive collision at turn 15 during the final lap of qualifying, resulting in a DNF and 14th place on the grid.

However, Colapinto's racing future remains uncertain, as he will need to undergo a second medical evaluation before Sunday's Grand Prix.

"During qualifying, Franco experienced a severe impact of over 50G, requiring further medical evaluation," said a Williams statement.

“The impact of this magnitude is clearly significant and severe, and he will need to be reassessed before we know if he's fit to compete."

The team emphasized that Colapinto's health is the priority and that they will provide updates if possible.

Given the severity of the crash, which destroyed three corners of his car, Colapinto may be required to start the race from the pit lane if he is cleared to compete.

This crash marks the sixth major incident for Williams in the last three events in Mexico, Brazil, and Las Vegas.

Williams team principal, James Vowles, estimated that the team suffered significant financial losses from the recent rebuild.
