SEOUL, South Korea - Netflix reality star Yoo Hee-ra has captured the attention of the public after appearing at a fashion contest carrying a suitcase filled with designer items worth over 100 million won (US$73,000).
During an episode of Netflix's fashion competition show 'Kill It: Style Creator War,' Yoo exchanged suitcases with her competitors, expressing her disappointment at parting with her luggage. The suitcase contained a unique skirt that she could not buy anywhere else in the world and had taken eight months to be delivered.
Yoo's appearance on the show brought her back into the spotlight in South Korea, two years after she gained recognition through another Netflix series, 'Super Rich in Korea.'
Yoo, also known as Aren Yoo, was born in 1999. The Western media have compared her to American heiress Paris Hilton, citing her extravagant lifestyle, rare luxury collection and presence at exclusive high-end events.
In 'Super Rich in Korea,' Yoo was presented as one of the five cast members from South Korea's ultra-wealthy top 1%.
In her debut on the show, Yoo showed viewers around her family's five-storey house in Seoul's Hannam-dong, where she has an entire floor to herself.
The standout feature of her room is a roughly 100-square-meter walk-in wardrobe, larger than her bedroom, packed with clothes, shoes, accessories and piles of boxes from global luxury brands. This impressive collection is a testament to her love for fashion and luxury items.
Yoo expressed her belief that 'fashion is suffering,' adding that once she wears a dress publicly, she usually keeps it in her collection instead of wearing it again. She hopes to one day open a fashion museum to display the pieces she has collected over the years.
Yoo's privileged access to the luxury fashion world has allowed her to hold events at prestigious locations, such as a Dolce & Gabbana boutique in Seoul where she celebrated her 24th birthday. This exclusive event showcases her status and influence in South Korea's high-end fashion scene.
As a well-known figure in luxury fashion circles, Yoo is often seen in the front row at major brand events and has been photographed with prominent Western celebrities and fashion figures, including Anna Wintour, Bruno Mars and Kim Kardashian.
Before making her TV debut, Yoo studied hotel management at Cornell University in the U.S. She credits her English fluency to her international studies and has stated that she currently works as a liaison connecting luxury brands with South Korean clients.
Beyond collecting rare fashion pieces, Yoo aims to bring major U.S. fashion shows to South Korea, expanding her influence and contribution to the fashion industry.
