Giants Notes: Winn, Gage, Mahle, Ramos - Fixing the Content

By Mark Polishuk | at June 14, 2026 4:50pm CDT

The Giants placed right-hander Keaton Winn on the 15-day injured list, with a retroactive placement date of June 11. Right-hander Tristan Beck was called up from Triple-A in the corresponding move.

The elbow strain is concerning due to Winn''s past injuries, including Tommy John surgery and an ulnar nerve transposition surgery. However, he may be able to start throwing again in a handful of days.

Over 30 2/3 innings this season, Winn has a 3.23 ERA, 21.8% strikeout rate, and 7.6% walk rate. His hard-hit ball rate ranks in the 96th percentile of all pitchers, and his barrel rate is also very strong.

Although he has struggled lately, Winn has been one of the more reliable members of an overall inconsistent Giants bullpen. Beck is up in the majors for the third time this season.

On the rotation front, Tyler Mahle is slated to begin a Triple-A rehab assignment today. Mahle hasn''t pitched since May 26, as a left hamstring strain sent him to the 15-day IL.

Mahle will probably rejoin the rotation in place of Trevor McDonald. The trade deadline could factor into the Giants'' thinking in giving Mahle more time to right the ship as a starter.

Turning to position players, Heliot Ramos could also be close to starting a rehab assignment. Ramos sustained a right quad strain while trying to make a sliding catch in the Giants'' 5-2 loss to the Athletics on May 15.

With Keaton on the 15-day injured list, there goes any hope that over the next 15 days that the Giants will get a WINN!!

Great. With Heliot coming back, we can replace a poor fielding LF with a poor fielding LF.

One gets traded. I''m guessing Ramos, but will need to come out hot to have value.

I''d rather they trade Schmitt. With more team control, and defensive value at 3B, I think he has a lot more trade value than Ramos, so the return would be better.

Buster should definitely look into trading Schmitt. Regression will occur. To wit, he''s good but not this good. He''d be a great fit for the Marlins and the Phillies.

Casey is getting some buzz this year around the league. His positional versatility fits with almost any team looking to add a RH bat.

We get it, they suck this year. You constantly complain about them in every single post.

I''ve been a loyal fan since 1962, and will remain one. I have defended them against countless, baseless criticisms, of the ''your team sucks'' variety.

They''re on pace to avoid losing 100 games by just 3 games. It should be a wake-up call when you look at the numbers in early June, and you realize that even a WC berth is beyond realistic.

Lack of hope leads to criticism. At least, I back my criticism up with researched numbers.

Jean has years of rational, evidence based posting behind him. Probably provided more evidence based info than any other guy here.

Thanks fop. You probably overstated my contributions, but it''s much appreciated.

Too bad money stands in the way of dumping Adames and Chapman. Any number of contenders would be happy to add either one as a bench piece and/or RH platoon option.

If Buster would eat a lot of the cheese both these guys are due, he could move them and begin to restock the farm.

Not much down on the farm to get Bay Area fans excited. It''s time for a rebuild centered around Eldridge. Play Eldridge at 1B, move Devers to 3B and keep Susac and Lee.

They just signed these guys. Chapman has been fine, hardly any different than years past. Adames is what he is.

That''s what happens when you play second fiddle to the top guys on the market and settle for lesser ones.

They aren''t perfect players. Now you''re stuck trying to build around them.

Devers hurt them the most. They jumped prematurely at the opportunity to get an ''elite'' bat but ignored the cost and risk.

People keep saying Chapman is a sunk cost but the dude has been worth over 3.2 bWAR in 71 games this year.

That''s not bad, considering the park and lineup it''s pretty good.

Yeah, I don''t get it? He''s doing what he''s been doing.

The Giants have to be happy with how it''s played out so far.

We can cherry pick the opposite way also. Luciano, Fitzgerald, Doval, Wade and even Bart to an extent.

I''m sure there are many more.

Your point is valid though to an extent. It does hurt as a fan when you see former Giants doing well but that scenario is true all across MLB.

Heck, Snell was a good pass.

So it works both ways at times. Doesn''t make this year feel any better at all though.

Kyle Harrison is another example.

We Giants fans knew he had the talent but he''s off the charts for the Brewers.

I expect him to regress a little as he piles up the innings.

But we also got rid of Hicks in that deal and I''ll stand up for bringing in Devers every time.

Acquiring and releasing players is still a crapshoot most of the time.
