Only two teams participated on the second day of Barcelona testing as Ferrari made its debut on the track.
Ferrari joined the second day of private F1 testing in Barcelona, marked by wet weather and two interruptions caused by Red Bull.
Tuesday marked the first time the Ferrari SF-26 took part in the five-day collective F1 test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with Max Verstappen from Red Bull also driving for the first time this year.
Verstappen caused a red flag in the morning when he went off track and into the gravel area while doing an outlap in Turn 5, but the Dutch driver managed to avoid further drama.
Four-time world champion Verstappen completed 27 laps in the morning before handing the RB22 over to his new teammate at Red Bull, Isack Hadjar, who reportedly crashed in Turn 14 in the final hour of Tuesday's test.
Online video footage showed Hadjar against the barrier with the rear of the Red Bull hitting the barrier. Hadjar was not injured in the incident, which damaged the rear wing and suspension, ending Red Bull's day early.
For Ferrari, Charles Leclerc completed 64 laps in the morning session before Lewis Hamilton took over in the afternoon, totaling 45 laps before the final red flag of the day.
According to SoyMotor, Hadjar set a best time of 1 minute 31.981 seconds, compared to 1 minute 33.455 seconds for Hamilton amidst the rain that fell and stopped throughout the afternoon.
Verstappen was the fastest in dry conditions with an unofficial time of 1 minute 19.578 seconds, compared to Leclerc who set a time of 1 minute 20.844 seconds.
Leclerc was faster in wet conditions, setting a time of 1 minute 32.088 seconds, compared to Verstappen who set a time of 1 minute 38.254 seconds.
Leclerc gave a positive first impression after driving the Ferrari SF-26 in the morning.
'It's nice to be back in the car. Back in a car that's really new and very different from what we've driven so far,' he said.
'For now, the most important thing is to try to understand if everything is working well, and it is.'
'The conditions were not ideal because of the slight rain this morning, but actually we still ran our program because we were not at all focused on performance.'
'We were more focused on all the new systems in the car and seeing if everything was working as it should. It turned out to be, so that's a positive. Then we will slowly run our program.'
Mercedes, Racing Bulls, Haas, Audi, Alpine, and Cadillac chose not to participate in the test session due to the changeable weather conditions throughout the day.
F1 teams are allowed to test their new cars on three days of their choice throughout the week.
Aston Martin, which has not yet tested its 2026 F1 car, will join the test as early as Thursday, while Williams missed the entire test session after failing to prepare their FW48 car on time.
Rain is expected to fall again on Wednesday, with the weather conditions expected to improve for the final two days of testing on Thursday and Friday.
Ferrari and Red Bull took to the track on the second day of Barcelona testing, with Hadjar suffering a crash in the final hour of testing.
