Lewis Hamilton shares his thoughts on Charles Leclerc's new contract at Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton reacts to the news that his teammate at Ferrari, Charles Leclerc, has just signed a new contract.
Ferrari announced a new contract extension for Leclerc on Wednesday ahead of their home F1 race, the Grand Prix of Monaco.
It's believed that this deal will keep Leclerc at Ferrari until 2030 and beyond, which means he will likely continue to be Hamilton's teammate in F1.
Hamilton was convincingly beaten by Leclerc during their disappointing debut season together at Ferrari in 2025, but he has started the new season much stronger and has already secured two podiums.
The 41-year-old British driver says he's excited to continue working alongside Leclerc.
'I think we work well together and collaborate well, along with the team,' Hamilton told Sky Sports F1 ahead of the Monaco weekend.
'We're pushing the team collectively, with Fred and all the brilliant guys behind the scenes, all the engineers working extremely hard on the car. I think we're working very well.'
When asked if he's thinking about contract talks, Hamilton replied: 'No, there's plenty of time. I've still got plenty of time. It's not something I'm thinking about, it's not something I'm discussing.'
Ferrari's rivals predict that they will be favorites at the Monaco GP due to the SF-26's exceptional performance on slow corners, which dominate the narrow streets of Monte Carlo.
However, Hamilton has dampened the excitement surrounding Ferrari ahead of the weekend.
'I'll say that this track will be better for us than a few others,' he said. 'Because on the straights we have, for example in Montreal, we lost a lot of time, and it's clear that here we will lose much less.'
'I think the engine power won't be a big issue. Our car is good at low speeds, so I think we'll be competitive.
'I don't think we'll be the fastest, especially with Mercedes' improved performance in the last race, but I think we'll be competitive.'
