The Group of Death is finally here! One of the most highly anticipated group stage matchups of the World Cup 2026 is today, June 16, as co-favorite to win the tournament France takes on Senegal at MetLife Stadium. France is a top team in the world, especially after winning in 2018 and falling to Argentina in the 2022 final. Their stacked roster includes some of the best players in the world, including Kylian Mbappé and 2025 Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé. Their first real test will be Senegal, who won the Africa Cup of Nations title in January, but had their title stripped by the African confederation after a staging a walk-off protest when Morocco was awarded a penalty.
