Earlier this year, it was announced that CORTIS would embark on their first tour, 'Put Your Phone Down.' This marks a significant milestone for the group, as it is their debut tour since their formation.
The tour is set to kick off in South Korea before heading to North America for six scheduled dates. However, the ticketing process for the North American leg has already generated considerable buzz and controversy.
On June 9, the pre-sale for the North American dates opened, exclusively for fans who had purchased the official fanclub membership. The demand was immediately apparent, with over 424,000 people joining the ticket queue for the New York concert alone.
This initial pre-sale for the New York date quickly sold out, and similar high demand was observed for the other scheduled cities. The immense popularity of CORTIS is undeniable, but this has unfortunately led to significant backlash directed at their agency, HYBE.
Fans are expressing outrage over the chosen venue sizes. The largest venue for the North American leg is in Los Angeles, with a capacity of just 6,026 seats. The New York venue seats only 5,570. These capacities are drastically smaller than the hundreds of thousands of fans who attempted to secure tickets, leading many to believe that HYBE has severely underestimated the group's global appeal.
Adding to the fan frustration, numerous tickets have appeared on resale sites almost immediately after the pre-sale began. Some listings were reportedly available as early as 3:01 PM on the day tickets went on sale, even though it was a fan pre-sale event. This rapid resale, particularly for a fan-exclusive sale, has intensified anger towards both HYBE and Ticketmaster.
Given the group's massive popularity, it's understandable why fans are upset with the perceived mismanagement by BIGHIT/HYBE and the resale issues facilitated by Ticketmaster.
As CORTIS embarks on their highly anticipated first tour, 'Put Your Phone Down,' overwhelming demand for tickets has led to fan frustration regarding venue capacity and immediate resale availability.
