Incendies: Scorching Smells Spread Across Lyon and Rhône on Sunday.

The air was filled with an eerie scent of burning plastic on Sunday morning across the entire Rhône region, particularly in Lyon and surrounding areas.

The smell seemed to emanate from the cusp of l'Industrie in the 9th district and flowed towards l'ÃŽle Barbe, as attested by a local resident.

In response, another resident stated, 'Same in the 7th,' while a third said, 'It's also in Croix-Rousse.' Oullins residents also felt the effects.

A concerned individual from Ville-sur-Jarnioux contacted our reporter, stating, 'It smells of burning here today; something must be burning in the Beaujolais.

At the forefront of this investigation, Atmo Rhône-Alpes explained that the burning odor is a direct result of the devastating fires in Gironde and the Landes.

The pungent smell of fumes carried by a strong westerly wind spread to the Saint-Étienne region and the Lyon area on Saturday evening before intensifying its presence on Sunday morning.

'Fog levels are relatively high; Lyon is right in the path of the pollution,' reported Lyon Météo.

In light of this alarming situation, the entire west region has been placed on a pollution watch.

As Atmo warned, 'Fine particulate matter concentrations could rise beyond the 50μg/m3 threshold,' the Prefecture activated pollution information and advisories for the rest of the day on Sunday.

The authorities noted, however, that winds in the West will decrease significantly by Monday, 'slow down the flow of fumes, and facilitate their dispersion.'

The situation demands close monitoring, and the public is urged to remain vigilant, especially given the ongoing wildfires.

For those witnessing a fire, please contact the 18 or 112 emergency line immediately.
