India Embarks on Daring Operation to Recover 'Green Boots' Climber's Remains

Indian authorities are planning a high-risk operation to recover the body of a climber known as 'Green Boots' from Mount Everest.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police has issued a tender for a specialist agency to bring down what is believed to be the remains of Dorje Morup from the Tibet side of the mountain.

The recovery of the body is expected to be complicated due to the need to coordinate with Chinese authorities and navigate treacherous terrain.

'Green Boots' was a member of a six-member expedition that perished in a deadly storm near the summit in 1996.

The remains of the climber have become a stark reminder of the risks of high-altitude climbing and the challenges of rescue and recovery in the mountain's 'death zone'.

The recovery operation is expected to take place between June and September.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police has declined to comment on the tender, citing the need to forward the query to the force's mountaineering division for consideration.
