Indians Furious as US Refuses to Apologize for Killing Sailors

Relations between the United States and India have hit a new low as the US refuses to apologize for the deaths of three Indian sailors in a missile strike in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US military launched the strike last week in an attempt to enforce a blockade on Iran, but the Indian government has condemned the attack, describing it as 'unjustified' and 'deeply shocking'.

The three sailors, who were working on a commercial oil tanker, were killed when the US launched a strike on the vessel as it sailed through the strait.

The US government initially failed to acknowledge the sailors' deaths, before eventually confirming that its forces had carried out a strike on a vessel in the strait that was allegedly in violation of sanctions.

The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio refused to offer any kind of condolence, instead doubling down on the US's justification for the strike.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has summoned a senior US diplomat to convey that the strikes must stop, and has called on the US to apologize for the deaths of the three sailors.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage in India, with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being 'silent' over the killing of innocent Indian citizens.

Modi is currently in France attending the G7 summit, where he is expected to meet US President Donald Trump on the sidelines. The deaths of the three sailors are likely to feature prominently in their discussion.

Families of the three sailors who died have also come out publicly demanding answers for how the men became collateral damage in the conflict and calling for their remains to be brought back.
