TABLOIDSINARTANI.COM, Jakarta---As El Nino looms, Indonesia's ambition to maintain food self-sufficiency faces a major test. However, PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) remains committed to supporting this goal, ensuring a stable supply of subsidized fertilizers to aid the national rice production target of 35 million tons in 2026.

At a webinar, Vice President of PT Pupuk Indonesia, Susatyo Jati, reaffirmed the company's dedication to supporting Indonesia's food self-sufficiency program through guaranteed fertilizer supplies and increased agricultural productivity. This commitment aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's vision to strengthen national food security.

To achieve this goal, Pupuk Indonesia has prepared for the potential impacts of El Nino by ensuring adequate stockpiles of subsidized fertilizers across the country. As of June 8, 2026, a total of 1.17 million tons of fertilizers were stockpiled, consisting of 836,000 tons of subsidized fertilizers and 338,000 tons of non-subsidized fertilizers.

With this stockpile, Pupuk Indonesia is confident in its ability to meet the estimated demand for the next 23 days, assuming an average daily consumption of 37,000 tons. The company has also optimized its production and distribution network to ensure a smooth supply chain.

Pupuk Indonesia has established a robust distribution network, comprising 1,047 distributors and 26,607 retail outlets, to effectively reach farmers across the country. The company also monitors its stockpiles at various levels, from production to retail, to ensure that fertilizers are readily available to farmers whenever needed.

With its commitment to food self-sufficiency and preparedness for the impacts of El Nino, Pupuk Indonesia aims to provide a stable supply of fertilizers to farmers, supporting Indonesia's national food security goals.

El Nino's potential impact on crop yields and agricultural productivity has led PT Pupuk Indonesia to emphasize the importance of maintaining adequate fertilizer supplies and ensuring a stable distribution network. Despite the challenges posed by El Nino, Pupuk Indonesia remains confident in its ability to support the nation's food self-sufficiency efforts.

The company's Vice President, Susatyo Jati, underscored the significance of maintaining a stable fertilizer supply chain, particularly during the planting season.
