In a recent exclusive interview, Indonesian athlete Ibnu Jamil announced his plans to participate in the Cape Town Marathon in South Africa. This decision comes after he achieved the Six Stars Medal in the World Marathon Majors.
Achieving the Six Stars Medal requires completing the Boston Marathon, which Ibnu Jamil finished in April 2025, in addition to finishing the Tokyo, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York Marathons.
'This year, I am focusing on local marathons in Indonesia. As for international marathons, I will wait as I have already achieved the six stars,' said Ibnu Jamil in an exclusive interview.
Ibnu Jamil added that his most recent marathon, which added to his six-star collection, was the Sydney Marathon in August 2025. He plans to participate in the Shanghai Marathon, but only after it gains official recognition as a World Marathon Major.
'If the two races are officially recognized as World Marathon Majors, I will participate. At the moment, they are still in the verification process, and I expect it to take place next year or two years from now,' said Ibnu Jamil.
Despite the uncertainty, Ibnu Jamil remains active in local marathons, including the Maybank Marathon, which he has participated in five times. This year, he is considering participating in the half marathon due to time constraints from his acting schedule.
'Half marathon is my favorite distance. It's not too close, but not too far. For a full marathon, the training requires more time and effort, and with my acting schedule, it's challenging to prepare intensively,' said Ibnu Jamil.
The support of his family plays a crucial role in his consistency in the sport. His wife, Ririn Ekawati, is also an avid runner and understands the importance of nutrition, equipment, and training.
'The support doesn't just come from myself, but from my family, my wife, and even my children. When we discuss running at home, everyone is on the same page,' said Ibnu Jamil.
Interestingly, his children have also developed an interest in running without any pressure or coercion. In fact, one of his children participated in a running event.
'I never forced them, but when we are preparing to run, they ask to join. It's a great feeling when children develop an interest in running due to their own desire, not because they are forced to,' said Ibnu Jamil.
This experience has been a valuable lesson for Ibnu Jamil, and he believes it's essential to encourage children to develop their own interests and hobbies.
