Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly a major target for the Boston Celtics, but a potential trade has hit a major roadblock.
Boston Celtics insider Bill Simmons dropped a bombshell when he said the team made an offer to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo in a trade.
However, things got more interesting when NBA insider Grant Afseth shared a potential multi-team trade framework that would land Antetokounmpo in Boston, whileJaylen Brown would join the Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee would receive the Clippers' No. 5 overall draft pick.
But there's a major issue with the proposed deal, according to MassLive.com Celtics reporter Brian Robb.
''However, a closer look at this hypothetical trade leads to questions on multiple fronts. To begin, let\u2019s look at the money in this proposed deal,'' Robb wrote, noting Brown's $53.1 million salary and Antetokounmpo's $54.1 million pay. \"There is a big issue here to begin. In order to make this kind of deal legal, it needs to involve proper salary matching. The Clippers would have to send out at least $42 million in salary to take on Brown\u2019s contract in any trade scenario (on top of the No. 5 overall pick) with this type of construction.\">
This latest rumor has sparked intense debate in the lead-up to the NBA Draft. It's unclear whether the Celtics' alleged interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo is legitimate, but one thing's for sure: this one doesn't smell right unless there are a lot more moving parts involved.
