Iran Allows 24 Ships to Pass Through the Strait of Hormuz, with 300 More Listing to Join

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps has announced that it has allowed 24 cargo and tanker ships to exit the Strait of Hormuz since Monday.

The Iranian news agency WANA reported that the ships were permitted to pass through the strait after obtaining permission and under the coordination and security regulations of the Iranian Navy.

In the meantime, the New York Post reported that at least 300 ships have listed to join the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Persian Gulf Strait Authority in order to obtain permission to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority stated to the US media that the majority of the applicants are oil tankers. At least 77% of the applicants want to exit the Persian Gulf to reach Asia, particularly China and India, who are the two largest oil buyers in the Middle East.

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority, which is now under US sanctions, stated that the permit will not be granted to "enemy countries." This term is used to describe the US and Israel, along with their allies.

The PGSA stated, "In accordance with the policy declared by the Islamic Republic of Iran, the PGSA has no authority to issue permits for ships from enemy countries to pass through the route, and under the conditions of restrictions resulting from the war, the PGSA prioritizes the route for ships related to collaborating governments,"

The PGSA did not mention the fee to be charged to each ship to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Previous reports stated that oil tankers could pay up to $2 million to the Iranian government.

On the other hand, the US instructed ships not to pay the exorbitant fees imposed by Iran, after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent imposed sanctions on the PGSA last week.

"Iran's latest military attempt to squeeze global maritime trade is proof that the Economic Anger has made the regime desperate for cash," said Bessent, adding that anyone who gives money to the IRGC will face US sanctions.

However, many ships that want to exit the Strait of Hormuz prefer to list with the IRGC and PGSA to get through even though they are warned by the US that they will face sanctions.

The Iranian Navy further stated that smart control over the Strait of Hormuz is being implemented with full authority. They stated that malicious foreign actors will have no place in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian Navy announced that 28 ships successfully crossed the strategically important Strait of Hormuz on May 31, 2026, after obtaining the required authorization and coordination.

The Iranian Navy also announced that 20 ships were authorized to cross the Strait of Hormuz on May 30, 2026, after coordinating with IRGC forces and relevant Iranian maritime authorities.
