Mohammad Javad Zarif's successor, Abbas Araghchi, confirmed that Iran and Oman will jointly manage the Strait of Hormuz according to international law.
Iran and Oman's direct border with the strait gives both countries the right to regulate and coordinate its management, according to Araghchi.
In a televised interview, Araghchi stated that Iran would continue to consult with regional Gulf countries about developments in the area, but emphasized that the ultimate decision on managing the Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran and Oman.
The diplomat noted that both countries have a primary responsibility in ensuring the stability and security of the international shipping route.
Effective management and coordination are crucial to maintaining the smooth flow of international trade in the region, he added.
The Iranian official also commented on the country's domestic politics, stating that regular communication between the government and the Supreme Leader remains unchanged.
Araghchi emphasized that the government receives guidance from the Supreme Leader at the right time and carries it out as usual, reaffirming the stability of the state's coordination.
