Iran War Protests: Bringing Attention to a Long-Forgotten Conflict

The Iran-Iraq War, which lasted for eight brutal years from 1980 to 1988, remains one of the most devastating conflicts of the 20th century. This largely forgotten war resulted in the deaths of an estimated one million people, left millions more homeless, and caused widespread destruction to both countries. In an effort to bring attention to this long-forgotten conflict, a protest group has installed a war participation trophy on the National Mall, sparking debate and reflection on the human cost of war and the importance of peace activism.
