Jannik Sinner made history by clinching the top spot in the world rankings after defeating Carlos Alcaraz in an electrifying two-set match at the 2026 Monte Carlo Masters clay court tournament.

The intense showdown lasted two hours and 15 minutes, with Sinner emerging victorious with a score of 7-6 (5) and 6-3 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France.

"Coming back to world number one means a lot to me. I'm very happy to win a big title on this surface. I've never done it before and it means a lot to me," Sinner expressed his elation to the ATP official website.

This monumental win marked Sinner's third ATP 1000 trophy of the season, following his victories at the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments, known as the Sunshine Double.

Sinner acknowledged the challenging conditions, saying, "The weather was a bit windy and blowing. Conditions are different from previous tournaments and the results are amazing."

This historic victory made Sinner the second player to secure consecutive titles in Miami and Monte Carlo since Novak Djokovic achieved the feat in 2015.

In addition, Sinner joined an elite group of players, including Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who have won four consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles.
