Justin Trudeau Chooses to Watch USMNT Over Canada's World Cup Opener

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau chose to attend the USMNT's World Cup opener against Paraguay over Canada's game against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Trudeau, accompanied by his girlfriend Katy Perry, was in attendance at the U.S.-Paraguay game in Inglewood, California, on Friday night. Katy Perry had performed in the opening ceremony before the match.

The U.S. team won the game 4-1, with Folarin Balogun scoring two goals and a Paraguayan own goal contributing to the victory. Canada, on the other hand, earned a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto earlier in the day, with their game kicking off at 3 p.m. ET and the USMNT's game starting at 9 p.m. ET.

Trudeau took to X to respond to the media attention, stating that his priorities as a supportive boyfriend didn't lessen his loyalty and support for his country.

"Sometimes supportive boyfriend duties call. But you know who I'm rooting for to take the Cup," Trudeau wrote, signaling his support with the Canadian flag emoji.
