Knicks Owner James Dolan's Surprising Request to Players Before the Playoffs

The New York Knicks have made a triumphant return to the top of the basketball world. After decades of heartbreak and frustration, the team secured their first NBA championship since 1973 by defeating the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals. With a 53-29 record, the Knicks earned the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference and went on to dominate the playoffs.

Just days after the championship celebration, an intriguing story has emerged from behind the scenes. According to reports, Knicks owner James Dolan made an unconventional request to his players before the postseason started: to avoid sex and other forms of intercourse for 10 weeks.

Professional athletes have long been surrounded by myths and theories regarding preparation, focus, and performance. While some coaches and organizations have embraced unorthodox methods, Dolan's reported request certainly ranks among the more surprising ones.

The results, however, are undeniable. The Knicks opened the postseason by defeating the Atlanta Hawks in six games and then swept the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the subsequent rounds.

The championship round was just as memorable, with the Knicks winning three of the first four games against San Antonio, including an incredible comeback in Game 4. The team ultimately secured the NBA title with a second straight stunning comeback in Game 5.

While it's unlikely that Dolan's unusual request was the sole reason for the team's historic run, Knicks fans are probably thrilled with the outcome and not questioning the methods that led to it.
