Laurent Mekies' Hopes for Isack Hadjar in 2026 Season

KabarOto.com - Laurent Mekies shared insights on Red Bull Racing's hopes for Isack Hadjar as the young French driver prepares to move up from Red Bull Racing Junior Team to partner with Max Verstappen in 2026.

Having struggled in his F1 debut season, where he experienced a difficult start at the rain-affected Australian Grand Prix, Hadjar quickly bounced back and secured several points throughout the year, including his first podium at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.

Just before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix finale, it was confirmed that the 21-year-old driver would replace Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull Racing in 2026, marking his second season, while the Japanese driver will take on a test and reserve role for Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Racing Junior Team.

'Isack has had an incredible debut season. No doubt from a starting point, so from where he began in January, his starting point was incredibly strong,' said Laurent Mekies, Red Bull Racing's Team Principal.

The Red Bull Racing team has great faith in not only the natural talent but also the ability of their drivers to progress. They've seen many champions develop over the years, doing things they hadn't done in a few races beforehand.

'We see it as another opportunity for him to continue to grow, to continue to impress us, to continue to surprise us. And you'll expect that in year two. You'll expect that in year three, maybe in year four. So that's a bit of the journey we'll be on together,' concludes Laurent Mekies.
