Formula 1 is becoming increasingly competitive, and former driver Johnny Herbert believes Lewis Hamilton needs to be aware of his own limitations in the sport.
Hamilton is entering his second season with Scuderia Ferrari in F1 2026, but he has yet to show consistent competitiveness and has only reached the podium once since joining the team in 2025.
Despite enjoying the current competition, Herbert thinks Hamilton should start considering his future in the sport, given his age and the rise of new talents.
Herbert would advise Hamilton to be honest with himself and acknowledge that his competitive level may not be the same as it was in the past.
The 61-year-old former driver suggests that Hamilton will eventually have to think about retiring, saying, 'There will be a time when you think, I'm not like I used to be, I have to go, it's time.'
Although Hamilton still appears motivated and has a long-term contract with Ferrari, Herbert believes he is being tested by his teammate Charles Leclerc and that his current situation is more challenging than before.
The F1 2026 season will resume after a nearly month-long break, with the fourth series, F1 GP Miami 2026, taking place at the Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens, USA.
