Marc Marquez: The Modern-Day Ayrton Senna of MotoGP

Marc Marquez has secured his seventh MotoGP world championship title, marking a triumphant comeback. According to Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz Jr, Marquez is the Ayrton Senna of MotoGP.

Marquez clinched the 2025 MotoGP world championship title in Japan, finishing second in Motegi to secure his seventh championship title.

This is Marquez's first title since 2019, following a difficult period that included a serious injury and three major surgeries in 2020, as well as another operation in 2022 to repair his humerus bone.

Marquez also parted ways with Honda, the team that had nurtured his career, due to the bike's declining competitiveness. He then joined the Ducati satellite team, Gresini, in a bid to revive his career.

His impressive performance with Gresini earned him a spot on the factory team, ultimately leading to his championship win this season. This comeback story adds depth to his current title.

Sainz, a fellow Spanish driver competing in Formula 1, considers Marquez a legend and equivalent to Ayrton Senna in the world of F1. The late Senna is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the history of motorsport.

Despite driving different types of vehicles, what can be compared between Marquez and Senna is their aggressiveness and fearlessness in pushing the limits of their machines. Both Senna and Marquez constantly strive to understand and exceed the boundaries of their vehicles.

"I've already saved him, because he's having a great year and deserves credit for his comeback," Sainz said in an interview on the El Partidazo podcast.

"Marquez is like the Ayrton Senna of MotoGP. It's just that we're experiencing it now, so we don't realize it."

"When he retires and time passes, everyone will remember Marc Marquez as the one who came closest to what Ayrton Senna achieved in Formula 1."
