Massive Egg Recall Affects Thousands in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Beyond

More than a million eggs sold in stores in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and others have been recalled over potential salmonella contamination.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. is voluntarily recalling 1,589,577 dozen white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs produced in Texas due to the potential for salmonella contamination.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals infected with salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6, 2026, and July 3, 2026, with sell-by or best-by dates ranging from July 20, 2026, to August 17, 2026. They were shipped to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Consumers could find the eggs at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana, Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi, as well as other smaller retail outlets.

No other Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. products are included in this recall.
