The Portland Timbers capped off a thrilling Leagues Cup 2026 campaign with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Club Tijuana at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. This hard-fought win marked a bittersweet end to the MLS side's journey in the tournament, as the team had already been eliminated from Quarterfinal contention following earlier results on Thursday night.

Martí Cifuentes made his managerial debut in the victory, an event that is set to mark a significant beginning in his tenure as the head coach of the MLS side. The victory highlights the resilience and determination of the team in the face of adversity.

The match got off to a fiery start, with Tijuana taking the lead in the 19th minute through a well-placed cross from Alan Vega to Mourad El Ghezouani. The Moroccan striker made no mistake as he found the back of the net, giving his side the early advantage. However, the momentum would soon shift in favor of the Portland Timbers, who would go on to dominate the remainder of the first half.

The decisive moment in the match arrived in the 40th minute, when Kevin Kelsy equalized for the home team following a sustained period of pressure. Kelsy's equalizer was the result of a well-worked buildup involving David Da Costa and Jimer Fory, who provided the assist for the goal.

The second half of the match saw the Portland Timbers take the lead for the first time in the contest in the 64th minute. Anthony Alves, who was set up by a rebound from Kelsy's initial shot being denied by Sebastian Hernández, slotted the ball past the Tijuana goalkeeper to give his side a vital lead. The home team's momentum continued to build, and Ariel Lassiter sealed the deal for Portland with a 77th-minute strike, which confirmed the win and secured a memorable finish for the MLS side.

The Portland Timbers' thrilling comeback win over Tijuana serves as a testament to the team's never-say-die attitude and their ability to respond to adversity.
