Max Verstappen has revealed how he sees his future in F1 at the moment.
The four-time world champion with Red Bull has given indications about his future in Formula 1, stating that he 'is certainly nearing the end of his career.'
Verstappen's future, which is set to be one of the top topics of discussion this season, seems to be getting closer to being decided.
Despite having a long-term contract with Red Bull until 2028, there is a clause in his contract that allows him to leave earlier if he doesn't meet certain performance targets.
The 28-year-old driver has also criticized the 2026 F1 car, calling it 'Formula E with steroids' and saying it's not enjoyable to drive.
Verstappen had previously hinted that he might quit F1 if he doesn't enjoy the new-generation cars.
The rumors surrounding Verstappen's future are getting stronger, especially with his activities outside of the F1 paddock.
He won his debut GT3 race last year and hasn't ruled out moving to the sportscar racing if he decides to retire from F1.
In a podcast, Up To Speed, Verstappen said he sees his career in F1 'getting close to the end, and that's for sure.'
'To be honest, it's tough. I would say that the current regulations certainly aren't helping my career in F1. Let's just say that. It's not a problem. I mean, I've been very happy with my career in F1. I could easily leave it. I have many other projects.'
Verstappen emphasized that he doesn't care about leaving a legacy in F1 or chasing records like winning the most Grands Prix or the most world titles.
'Who cares when you're 60 or 70 years old if you've won four titles or ten titles because you're getting older and I'd prefer to spend my time with my family and truly appreciate life.
'Last week, I went skiing with friends and family, and my sister's fiancé is getting married, so I realized, 'This is great.' Like being able to spend a few days with them and truly appreciate life.
'Who cares about trying to go around the world 24 times a year to chase another title, and when you're 60 years old or whatever...'
'I don't care if I win four or eight times. I mean, I want to live my life. You only live once, and I don't want to spend 25 years of my life racing cars.
'I want to appreciate life and what's out there. So yeah, we'll see. Maybe I sound a bit dramatic now, but I just don't want to keep chasing or trying to live only for racing.'
