Milly Alcock's Supergirl Unveils a Power Superman Never Had

James Gunn's new DCU is set for a big year with the release of two feature films, Supergirl and Clayface, before 2026. The highly anticipated Supergirl film, starring House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock, is leading the charge with its release on June 26. Fans have been treated to multiple trailers and promotional materials, giving them a glimpse into what's to come.

The final trailer for Supergirl, debuted by Warner Bros., showcased new scenes ahead of the movie's release. In one action-packed sequence, Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, can be seen using a transportation device in battle, revealing an ability that sets her apart from Superman. This teleportation effect allows her to zip in and out of existence, using voxel-like particles to move around the cabin and take down her opponents.

The scene expands on footage previously shown at Warner Bros.' CinemaCon panel in April. Here, a group of pirates stops the spacecraft and boards it, intent on robbing the travelers. Armed with little robots that can scan for valuable items, the thieves make off with Kara's watch and Ruthye's sword. However, Kara reveals she has a plan, and it involves the pirates' own teleportation device.

Supergirl manages to steal one of the devices and uses it to teleport around the ship, fighting off the pirates and gaining the upper hand. This power, made possible by the device, gives her an advantage that Superman does not have in the DCU. Notably, Superman has never been able to teleport and likely never will in future appearances.

Although Kara's teleportation is device-dependent and not a natural superpower, it still sets her apart from Superman. As Kryptonians, both characters share the same basic power set, including super strength, indestructible bodies, heat vision, and more. However, Kara's ability to utilize a teleportation device gives her an edge that Superman does not have.

In the comics, Kara has been known to push her powers to the limit, sometimes using them in ways Superman does not. With the events of Supergirl set in motion by an attack on Krypto, fans may see Kara use her abilities in new and exciting ways, potentially exceeding what Clark has done in the past.
