MotoGP Brasil Investigation Results Revealed

KOMPAS.com - The MotoGP Grand Prix authorities have spoken out about the issues that plagued the track during the MotoGP Brasil event at the Ayrton Senna Circuit in Goiania.

The MotoGP Brasil 2026 event was marked by problems with the track at the Ayrton Senna Circuit in Goiania during the race on Monday (23/3/2026) at night.

Marco Bezzecchi emerged as the winner, followed by Jorge Martin in second place, and Fabio Di Giannantonio in third place.

Meanwhile, Marc Marquez finished fourth, marking the second consecutive time the Spanish rider failed to secure a podium in the 2026 MotoGP.

However, the MotoGP Brasil 2026 was marred by several problems, starting from the flood caused by the heavy rain at the beginning of the week.

Additionally, a hole appeared, causing the Sprint Race to be delayed, and damage to the asphalt that resulted in the MotoGP Brasil 2026 race being shortened.

After the MotoGP Brasil 2026 event, the race authorities and FIM immediately conducted an investigation and presented their findings about the incident.

According to reports from Crash, investigators stated that the unexpected heavy rain had damaged the track's surface at the Ayrton Senna Circuit in Goiania.

"Following the challenges posed by the track surface during the Grand Prix in Brasil, the circuit and promoter investigated the cause, including unprecedented rainfall that affected the final stages and contributed to the track surface issue," MotoGP authorities said.

"Significant damage to the track on Saturday resulted from the collapse of undocumented old waste disposal systems under the track surface."

"Fortunately, this issue, which was out of the racing route, was quickly addressed and repaired after the circuit's swift response, allowing activities to continue on the track thereafter," they added.

Furthermore, the asphalt degradation that occurred at Turns 11 and 12 was due to significant heat and track activity from the Moto2 Qualifying session, MotoGP Warm-Up, and Moto3 and Moto2 races.

The statement was made after the homologation process was completed and questions arose about the solidity of the track to hold another MotoGP event.

"On Sunday, local asphalt degradation caused by significant heat and track activity became apparent after the conclusion of the MotoGP2 Grand Prix," MotoGP authorities said.

"Although all excess aggregates had been removed before the MotoGP Grand Prix, the risk of continued surface damage during the MotoGP race remained. Track staff worked up to the start time scheduled to prepare the track, but for safety reasons, the race director decided to shorten the race to 23 laps (75% of the original racing distance)," they explained.
