New York Knicks Sign 6-Foot-9 NBA Champion Forward to Boost Jalen Brunson's Game

The New York Knicks are still basking in the glory of their remarkable championship victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the 2025-26 season. The team's impressive performance was a testament to their hard work and dedication. The Knicks were tasked with overcoming significant deficits throughout the season, and they answered the bell more often than not on their way to a 4-1 series win. This championship win marked a significant milestone for the franchise, and the team is eager to build on this success. The Knicks' front office has been working tirelessly to ensure the team remains competitive, and their latest roster move is a testament to this commitment.

While the offseason is still in its early stages, the Knicks have already made a notable move to assist star point guard Jalen Brunson. The franchise has signed a 6-foot-9 forward who was a member of the team's championship squad this past season. This signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's offense and defense. The new addition is expected to play a crucial role in helping the Knicks defend their championship title. The team's fans are excited to see how this new signing will impact the team's performance. The Knicks' coaching staff is also confident that this move will pay dividends in the long run.

According to reports, restricted free agent Mohamed Diawara intends to sign a multi-year, $10-plus million deal to return to the New York Knicks. Diawara, the No. 51 pick in last year's NBA draft, was a part of the champion Knicks after spending the season on a standard contract. This signing is a significant coup for the Knicks, as Diawara is a talented young player with a lot of potential. Diawara began his professional career overseas, competing with Paris Basketball, Poitiers Basket 86, and Cholet Basket before getting drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2025. With Los Angeles quickly shipping Diawara to New York, the Paris, France native had no choice but to begin his career with the Brunson-led Knicks.

Diawara appeared in 69 of New York's 82 regular-season contests but was used sparingly by head coach Mike Brown as a rookie. The 21-year-old big man averaged 3.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while shooting 42.3% from the field. Despite his limited playing time, Diawara showed flashes of brilliance, and the Knicks are eager to see him develop into a key contributor. Diawara was a 1.2-point, 1.5-rebound per game contributor for the Knicks in six postseason games, although his field goal shooting was a disappointing 23.1%. However, with a year of valuable NBA experience under his belt, there's a chance the former second-round pick could take a significant leap forward with New York in Year 2. The Knicks' coaching staff is confident that Diawara has the potential to become a key player for the team.
