Oklahoma's Hidden Gem: Keyland Shakes Up the Red Dirt Scene with 'Knuckle Sandwich' Album

In the heart of Oklahoma, a group of musicians known as Keyland is making waves in the Red Dirt scene. Composed of locals Kyle Ross, Jake Taylor, and Ryan Smith, the group has spent years crafting their unique sound, blending country and rock influences to create a distinct style that has captured the attention of fans across the state.

As the lead singer and guitarist of Keyland, Kyle Ross has taken a 'build it piece by piece' approach to the band's music, with an end goal of creating something truly remarkable. This dedication has shown in their performances, as the trio consistently brings a high-energy show to every venue, leaving fans begging for more.

In their latest offering, Knuckle Sandwich, Keyland shows a clear growth in their sound and songwriting skills.

Founding member and guitarist Ryan Smith says the new album marks a new direction for Keyland, while maintaining their country roots.

'I think you can hear us pushing ourselves on this record, trying out some new styles and ideas,' Smith explains. 'We've always been a country-rock band, but Knuckle Sandwich showcases more of our rock influences, as well as some new textures and arrangements.

The Knuckle Sandwich album is available on vinyl, a milestone for the band as previously their music was only available digitally. This is significant for their live show as they are now able to sell real vinyl copies, an experience for fans who attend their concerts.

'I have put music out before, but this feels different. I have real, tangible vinyl to sell. It has been fun to blue-collar, ma-and-pa them. People are sending me their address, and I am sending them out. I just want more shows on the books and to spread the good word of Knuckle Sandwich.'

Kyle and his band recorded Cannonball at the Sonic Ranch, where Koe Wetzel, Vandoliers, Waxahatchee, and American Aquarium have also recorded recently. It is considered a magical place with an analog studio located just outside of El Paso, Texas, on the Mexico border.
