Olivia Rodrigo's Glastonbury Triumph: Overcoming Pre-Show Nerves with the Magic of Music

Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo recently shared a candid revelation about nearly experiencing an 'anxiety attack' moments before her highly anticipated headlining performance at Glastonbury in 2025. This honest admission came during an interview with the BBC, where the singer discussed the immense pressure of gracing the stage at the UK's most iconic music festival, all while promoting her upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, and fresh off a surprise set at Primavera Sound in Barcelona.

Reflecting on the overwhelming moment, Rodrigo recounted, "I remember having a near-anxiety attack in the bathroom, like, ‘How am I going to do this? I don’t know if I’m ready.’" However, as she stepped onto the hallowed stage, a profound shift occurred. "Something overcame me the second I stepped on stage and started singing. I felt totally calm and so in my element. I’m not very spiritual or religious, but it’s moments like that where I feel music is just so magical that you just can’t really describe it."

This headlining slot marked a significant return for Rodrigo, who had previously performed on a smaller stage at Glastonbury in 2022. She described the 2025 experience as "probably the best weekend" of her life, a sentiment undoubtedly bolstered by sharing the stage with The Cure's legendary frontman, Robert Smith. Smith's influence extended beyond their performance, becoming a major inspiration for Rodrigo's new album.

Expressing deep respect for the festival's legacy, Rodrigo added, "I have such a reverence for the festival and the incredible heritage and artists that have played on that stage, so I put so much love and care into that set and spent so much time thinking about it. The fact that it translated it was totally a dream come true."

Their collaboration continued at Primavera Sound, where Rodrigo and Smith debuted "What’s Wrong With Me," a duet featured on her new record. The Cure's impact on You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is evident, with their song "Just Like Heaven" inspiring her opening single "Drop Dead," and another track simply titled "The Cure." Fans eagerly await the album's release this Friday.
