Padres Catcher Fermin Lands on Concussion IL, Blake Hunt Called Up

Padres catcher Freddy Fermin suffered a concussion and was placed on the 7-day injured list (concussion) after a violent collision at the plate in Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Padres have designated right-hander Ty Adcock for assignment.

Adcock, 27, was 1-0 with a 7.15 ERA in 11 Minor League games (one start) this season, striking out 15 and walking six in 11 innings.

Fermin exited the sixth inning after a Yuki Matsui warmup pitch spiked in front of the plate and hit him in the catcher's mask.

Filling in for Fermin will be catcher Blake Hunt, who made his Major League debut with the Padres. Hunt was hitting .269 with two doubles, a homer, and five RBIs in 26 at-bats over eight games for the Padres' Triple-A affiliate, El Paso.
